The Nissan Skyline r34 (GTR) was released in May 1998, selling around 1/4 as well as the r33 there were just under 65,000 cars sold from production. The new r34 addressed many of the concerns over the change from the R32 to the R33, it had a much greater emphasis on sportiness, and marked the introduction of the more fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly few engine options. Mostly though it was all about the 2.6ltr petrol r34.

Modifying r34
Strait up the GTR r34 was no slow car. With an engine boasting more than 280bhp as standard and a curb weight of just over 1.5 tons the r34 was fast fast fast compared to a lot of cars of its time, and remains faster than a lot of cars in our time!

The usual bit of advice here, only buy a car you are happy with, a gtr skyline will never be a bad car but there can be bad owners and sellers out there - people selling rotten examples as show cars or whatever. Check paper work, check car insurance, check with your eyes and your ears and look everywhere possible!

6 speed manual
The gearboxes in r34's are beefy - they can handle a lot more than the r34 can put out in stock and its nice to have that extra gear to get the efficiency out when on long motorway drives. Baring in mind the mpg of a gtr34 is likely to be quite a bit lower than your other cars.
